Alex’s World Beer Tour: Tommyknocker TundraBeary Summer Ale
Hello hello! Last Thursday, I mentioned that I had tried a new beer that I hadn’t shared with you. I can’t believe this one never came up – I had my first bottle in December – but with the craziness of the holidays, it just slipped my mind!
If you’ve read any of my beer articles, you know I have a ridiculous love for Tommyknocker Brewery, out of Colorado. True to form, I was doing a bit of last-minute Christmas shopping at our local liquor store.
Segway …
I bought my mom a Corksicle for Christmas. Basically, it’s a really long cork that’s made of some gel that freezes (remember those mugs that had outsides that would freeze?) and keeps your wine at the perfect temperature. Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool, so I picked her up one. They’re also not too expensive, so they make a great gift!
Back to the point!
I was at the register, and they had a clearance rack with out-of-season items, you know, the usual stuff. And I saw a six pack of the Tommyknocker Tundrabeary. Knowing that I’ve loved every brew of theirs I’ve tried, I grabbed it.
This brew was delicious. In the past, I haven’t been too into sweeter, fruity brews, but this one was just right. It really hit the balance between fruit and beer. Oh, and I just love the name. Get it? BEARy. Haha!
From the website:
“A slightly tart, refreshing light ale made with raspberries, blueberries and other natural fruits. Just as the cinnamon black bear on our label craves the flavor of mountain tundra berries, you will find this brew to be irresistibly delicious.”
I know I picked this up really late from when it was brewed, so I can’t wait to try one out this year that’s a little fresher. Tommyknocker is really great about brewing for the season, instead of brewing all year round. Phyll also really liked this brew, so I think it will become a staple in our house!
Did you ever really enjoy something you picked up out of the bargain bin? What was it?

Mmmm beer. Especially fruity flavored beer. My best friend has this local raspberry beer that she loves, and I just can’t get enough of it.
