Here we go! 2013 Race Schedule, Part 1
I’ve been putting off this post a bit. I don’t really know that I can pinpoint why. Actually, if I was honest with myself, I feel like writing all of this out brings a LOT of accountability, and it makes me hella nervous.
BUT
I am also a planner, and keeping my 2013 race plans all in my head would be a travesty (because, we all know I’ve got them). So, without further ado, here’s part 1 of what I’m planning on racing this year. I was going to do this in one shot, but honestly, that would have been one long post for you guys to read!

The Leprechaun Chase 10k
Saturday, March 16th, Downtown Des Moines, Iowa
This looks like it’s going to be sooo much fun. Green people? Green beer? Winning! Plus, ladies get a head start and the guys chase them. The first person to cross the finish line wins a free drink for their gender at the Green Beer Block Party at the Royal Mile. Although, do the girls really need the head start?
The Glow Run 5k
Saturday, April 20, Des Moines, Iowa
I’m actually a tiny bit on the fence with this one, but honestly, it looks like so much fun that I don’t know that I CAN’T run it. You know? Although I do imagine that this is more of the run/walk/jaunt/dance type of race, similar to the Color Run. The concept of this one, however, is that you follow a course of black light zones, a finish the race in a glowing finish line chute, and wear ‘glow gear’, which I’m guessing are glow sticks, but they just say ‘glow items’, so I’m not really sure what they mean by that. I don’t really like not being timed when I’m paying for a race, but I’ll probably look past that.
So anyway, you’ve got a firm-maybe-I might do this race. Haha! Also, I find it hard to pass up a course with a medal. Medals are just fun. The good thing about it is that I think it would be a good stress/nervousness reliever since it falls one week prior to my first half marathon of the year.
Drake Relays Half Marathon Road Race
Sunday, April 28, Des Moines, Iowa
My first half for the year! The Drake Relays are a pretty big deal in Iowa, and there are a ton of runners that show up to run professionally, or with school, or something. Okay, I’m a bit vague on details on the relays themselves. But, the time of year is perfect, and I’m excited that this will be my second half marathon! (Let’s not yack at the end, okay, Alex?)
Market to Market Relay
Saturday, May 11th, Jefferson, Iowa, to Des Moines, Iowa
Okay, I’m super pumped about this. I’m joining a team organized by Jacki of Dare 2 Dream Dare 2 Do for this event. We’ve got 7 people on the team total, so everyone runs about 11 miles (I think). 75 mile route total. I’ve always wanted to do a relay (you know, since I started running a year ago – that’s always), so I can’t wait to see what it’s like! Plus, the scenery should be awesome running though the country.

I’m not saying this is ALL my races – clearly, we’ve only made it until May here – plus, I may throw in a few smaller races in between these when they pop up, but this is the basic structure of my spring. If you want to suggest a race for me to run (basically only in Iowa, unless you’re willing to pay for me to go there), feel free! While I’m at it, if you happen to want to sponsor any of these races, please let me know and we’ll talk.

I know, isn’t it hard? But I think it was good to get it out – I feel a bit more organized now that it’s down on paper, so to speak. Especially with dates, and stuff. Now I just have to figure out the rest of the year!

So bummed that I will be missing the Leprechaun Chase. The whole family is doing the Glow Run, and I will run some distance at the Drake Relays. Of course, I’ll be seeing you for Market to Market. Also have Red Flannel Run planned and possibly Loop the Lake. Not sure how I can getting 13 races in this year (without wearing out my legs or the pocket book).

I’m running a couple of the ones your running. So excited about the Glow I too think it is going to be fun. I ran Drake last year for my first time and it was great. Not sure I’m doing it this year tho. Would like to try some other races. Hope to see you at one of the races. Have you ever done the Red Flannel run in Feb. I have done it several time. It a great run to do in the winter months short and sweet.

I haven’t done the Red Flannel, but Jacki is this year! (See comment above.) I’ll probably see what the weather’s doing by then and play it by ear. Do you have a blog, or what’s your Twitter handle?

I almost forgot about the Drake Half. The price went way up this year. It used to be $35 and then $50 the week of the race. I’m going to sign up. Carpool??

. And yes, carpool for sure! As far as I’m concerned, any race we’re both doing in DSM we can carpool – love to save the money on gas!

I wish I had more running buddies in my area to coordinate with!! I have a few races lined up (I swear, races are addicting despite my dislike for the whole running…). Sounds fun so far!
