Alex’s World Beer Tour & @KLUTCHclub winner!

Happy Thursday! How’s it going everyone? I hope the week is continuing to treat you well. It seems to be going so quickly for me, but that’s just because I’ve been so crazy busy.

I’ve got another beer to share today. On Friday, when I went to the bar with my girlfriends, I took a look at the beer menu at this bar for the first time. (For any of you locals, I’m referring to Es Tas, here.) Holy cow! I had no idea they carried such a variety. As you may have figured out, I love a bar with a good beer selection.

Rogue Dead Guy Ale Alexs World Beer Tour & @KLUTCHclub winner! They had my favorite, Tommyknocker Cocoa Porter, on the list, but they didn’t have it in stock. Figures. Lately, it’s been so hard to find! When they didn’t have that, I started perusing the list for something else. I’m a visual person, so going from a list was a little tough – I usually look at the logos & packaging. Because of this, I picked the one that sounded the most ridiculous one I read. This ened up being Rogue Brewery’s Dead Guy Ale.

I was having a lot of fun with my friends, so I’ll be honest, I didn’t take (mental) notes as well as I normally would. But, I did really enjoy this brew.

From the website:

In the style of a German Maibock, using our proprietary Pacman ale yeast. Deep honey in color with a malty aroma and a rich hearty flavor.

It’s got a fun history, too.

In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved so popular with consumers and especially Grateful Dead fans, that we made it the label for our Maierbock ale. Even though the association with the Grateful Dead band is pure coincidence, we have gratefully dedicated Dead Guy Ale to the Rogue in each of us.

Give it a try! Tasty stuff.

In other news …

I love good beers — though lately I’ve been heading more towards vodka. Dead guy ale is good — I really enjoy it!

love love love beer. Have you gone to the craft beer tent at the iowa state fair? Or any of their beer festivals? In august when I went to the beer tent I tried an AMAZING beer from http://www.twistedvinebrewery.com/ it was called Dark Knight..it’s literally the darkest beer I’ve ever seen but it tasted so good! If you ever get a chance you’ll have to try it out.

I wanted to go this year, but couldn’t! And then I had a race the same day as the other beer fest in DSM. This year, though, I really want to go to one!! I did go to the Beer, Food & Wine Expo (that may be in the wrong order…haha) by Hy-Vee, but that was much more wine-based. Have you gone to any locally?

I’ve seen these at the store and have been wanting to try them out – the label is sweet! I’ll pick up one of those for sure. Thanks for the rec!

I’ve gone to two of the festivales they’ve had in Des Moines at Principal Park. They are a good time except you have to go pretty early because a lot of times the vendors will start running out of the beer.

I haven’t tried any new beers lately. I tend to stick with Shiner or Land Shark. My two favorites (besides pina coladas)!
