Ah, Friday. This week seemed to just fly by for me. How about you? It was a little bit of an odd end to the week – we had some crazy weather yesterday (I’m talking fog, thundersnow, sleet, and a semi-blizzard in the same DAY) which had me working from home most of the day. Isn’t it odd how a day off the “typical” schedule can really put you off? Now, I feel like today shouldn’t be a Friday. But, I’m thankful for this Friday nonetheless!
I stumbled on Clare’s Five Things Friday post this week, and I noticed she has a link up! Since I was already writing these on and off, I was excited to join in. I actually found Clare’s blog through Katie’s blog. So, I’m linking up with both of those lovely ladies today!
1. One Vacation Plan
I had been really waffling back and forth about attending Blend Retreat this year. Well, Sunday, I went for it! I officially have my ticket. So, who’s going? I can’t wait to be back in Park City!
2. One Treat
On Valentine’s night, Phyll and I cooked our own feast to go along with the Challenge. We have a tradition of baking a Papa Murphy’s heart-shaped pizza (which, we still bought and put in the freezer) but I also cooked up a Paleo pizza crust, topped it with meat and veggies, and topped THAT with some Vegan, approved cheese.
To be honest, I didn’t think it would be that great, but it turned out really tasty! I will say, I wasn’t a huge fan of the cheese, but it was a fun way to continue a yearly tradition. (My side is the one with delicious mushrooms & black olives, obviously.)
Then, I told Phyll to pick a dessert from my Sugar-Free Valentine’s post. He choose the Nut-Butter cups, which I unfortunately discovered had Evaporated Cane Sugar in the chocolate. Spoiler alert? I made them anyway. So. Good! (And worth it on V-Day. But no, we didn’t eat them all in one setting.)
3. One Wedding Thing
I found this idea for a wedding guest book this week, and I LOVE it. However, I don’t know that I will use it (I’d say probably not!) because our guest number would likely take 3-4 Jenga games to cover. Yeah, that’s a lot of games! One for each room in the house?
4. One new
I still don’t have my race schedule figured out for this year, and should probably figure that out. But, I signed up for the Fight for Air Climb! I’d been casually thinking about this event for the last 6 months or so – since I met organizers of the event at the IMT Marathon Race Expo. Then, this week, two things happened. 1. Our weekly challenge for the Next Step Challenge was to sign up for a charity race/event. 2. I got a postcard with a discount to register for the Fight for Air Climb at $10 off. Call me crazy, but it seemed like fate to me!
If you haven’t heard of the Fight for Air Climb, it’s put on by the American Lung Association. Each climber commits to raising at least $100 for the cause, and the day of the event, you either will climb 1, 2, or 3 sets of stairs. The stairs vary from city to city, obviously, but here in Des Moines, I’ll be climbing the stairs of EMC Insurance Companies, Hub Tower, and the Des Moines Marriott Downtown. Uh, yeah … I signed up for the whole shebang. Two feet in the water, right? I mean, I ran a marathon last year!
If you have even a few dollars to spare, please consider donating to the cause. I have pledged to raise $100 for the charity as part of the walk/climb. I’ve never done a fundraising race, so give me some confidence that this wasn’t a crazy move, mmkay? I would really appreciate it!
5. One more week
Speaking of the Challenge, I have one week to go. This might be one of my favorite things about this week! Honestly, I’m done. I really really wanted to fall in love with this lifestyle, like so many others did, but it’s just not quite for me. I think the next six weeks will really be filled with me getting a good grasp on where I need to be with food. Finding a balance in my diet – and hoping that balance will help me maintain the weight I lost, which I can (unofficially) say, has brought me to a healthy body fat percentage for my height and age.
If you have to pick 5 things about this week, what would they be?
